I am interested in the human activity of specific locations.

I work in various media; most of my work incorporates ceramic elements (always fired to stoneware temperatures, therefore entirely weatherproof). I have a passion for the action of the kiln on materials and the resulting transformations.

All the work I make is intended to be situated in the open.

I endeavor to make a connection between the subject of my work and the materials I use.

I have most recently been working as Artist in Residence at the Heart of Hawick (www.scotborders.gov.uk/council/specialinterest/heartofhawick)

The main outcomes are a ceramic installation at the Heritage Hub, one of the two main buildings that are the focus Hawick’s town centre regeneration.

The Hub now houses the Borders archive. The work was made with the participation of over 300 young people, it is entitled “Oo”, which is used in the Scottish borders in place of “us”, “me”, “we”, “I”. There is a partner to this piece which is sited at Hawick High School and forms part of a new social garden area.

In progress is a pair of  works to be installed in the Tower Mill, they are a subversion of the vernacular keeking glesses which can be seen around the older parts of Hawick, they are self reflective rather than a means of enabling sleekit curiosity.
