...................................

I see myself in relation to the Scottish tradition of sculpture in stone, which runs from prehistoric times through the medieval stone-carvers to modern artists such as J.D. Fergusson, Tom Whalen, Hew Lorimer, and George Innes. I have been working at Glasgow Sculpture Studios since 1996, and became a full-time tenant in 2001. My aim is to maintain and refresh this ancient art of stone carving, using modern techniques and idioms.

Specialisation

Subjects, working media etc:  My sculpture is figurative and abstract,
mainly in stone and marble, but also in clay for bronze and other casting materials.

 I also occasionally make paintings.

Price range: £100 and upwards, usually £250.00 - £450.00 (Artist's price)

Artist's statement

“Fundamentally a figurative sculptor - even my abstracts have a figurative element. I enjoy exploring material through carving, but always developing a conscious formal design. Working with the different restraints of drawing and painting, and working in clay and bronze, are for me parallel ways of investigating the world of forms and signs. But stone remains my first love, with its elemental fascination, its resistance and its strength.”
