Style:
I see myself in relation to the Scottish tradition of sculpture in stone, which runs from prehistoric times through the medieval stone-carvers to modern artists such as J.D. Fergusson, Tom Whalen, Hew Lorimer, and George Innes. I have been working at Glasgow Sculpture Studios since 1996, and became a full-time tenant in 2001. My aim is to maintain and refresh this ancient art of stone carving, using modern techniques and idioms.

Over several years, I have attended classes in sculpture and life drawing at Glasgow School of Art, and have worked with and learned from stonemasons in Scotland and marble-carvers in Carrara, Italy. A visit to Greece in 1999 gave me the impetus to produce sculptures influenced by pre-classical and Cycladic sculpture. I work regularly in Carrara, where sculpture in stone is still very much alive.
